Our Inspiration

There’s something that bothered me for a long time about most ‘inspirational’ clothing: the loudness of it. The oversized slogans, the brand names worn as identity. I wanted the opposite — something you’d wear and feel privately anchored by, something a stranger might notice only if they were already the kind of person who would get it. That’s the thinking behind Subtle Quotes.

Every design I make draws from traditions that have actually stood the test of centuries. Marcus Aurelius reminding himself — not an audience — that the obstacle is the path. The Buddhist teaching of impermanence that makes a difficult week feel more navigable. The Stoic discipline of focusing only on what is within your control. These aren’t motivational posters. They’re ideas people have returned to in hard moments for thousands of years, and I think they deserve to live somewhere more personal than a phone screen.
